Do I need to be a student at Gateway to use this service?
No, you just need a valid email address to use this service.
What do you mean by “condition of textbook”?
It is required you list the condition of the textbook you are selling so the buyer knows what they are getting. The conditions are as follows:
New, still in cellophane.
Very Good, very minor wear and/or minimal highlighting or writing inside.
Good, some wear and/or minimal highlighting or writing inside.
Fair, noticeable use and/or substantial highlighting or writing inside.
Poor, extremely used and/or substantial highlighting or writing inside, but still fully intact and readable.
How do I price my book?
Do your research! See what the bookstore is asking, look online at Amazon and other outlets, also consider what you originally paid and what condition the book is in. Ultimately, the market will decide if your price is fair. Also be aware that buyers can counter your asking price, (but you are under no obligation to accept) this can be an indicator if your asking price is too high.
Do you handle payments for the book(s)?
We do not handle payments at this time. It is the responsibility of the seller and buyer to agree on a fair price and set up a meeting on campus for exchange of payment and book(s).
Why does the exchange have to occur on campus?
We strongly recommend the exchange occur on campus for individual safety reasons, but this is not required. We recommend you choose a well-lit, high traffic area for your own safety.
What if the book is not as described? I.e. seller said it was in good condition, but the book is clearly in poor condition?
When you meet up with the seller and the book is not as described, it is your right to not go through with the sale, or to negotiate a more fitting price. It is also the seller’s right to not accept the new price and for you both to walk away. This is another reason why we suggest choosing well-lit, high traffic areas for your own safety. Any problems beyond this you can contact us with the specifics, and we will determine the best course of action. If a seller or buyer is being unusually unreasonable, it is our right to ban them from using this service.
Why do I need the ISBN# and how do I find it?
The ISBN# is critical so the buyer knows they are getting the right textbook for their class. You can find the ISBN# on the back of the book by the barcode.
We strongly recommend buyers verify the ISBN# for the book they are purchasing is the correct one for that semester. You can find the correct ISBN# when you click on “Review Book Info” for your class through WebAdvisor.
What if I have a dispute with seller/buyer?
If you have peaceably tried to resolve to conflict to no avail, contact us with the specifics, and we will determine the best course of action. We will make every effort to resolve the conflict. If a seller or buyer is being unusually unreasonable, it is our right to ban them from using this service.
