History of Dragons Before and During Human Culture and Civilization

Dragons in Pre and Early Human History

All of our dragon prehistory has been given to us by dragons, only with the exception carbon dated evidence. Dragons predate human-kind by at least 2 million years, we do have carbon dated evidence to support this. There are some ancient races of dragons that claim that dragons even created human-kind through advanced DNA manipulation far, far beyond current human capabilities. There is no concrete evidence to support this as of yet, but dragon knowledge of genetics in general and, specifically, the human genotype is somewhat frightening given that claim! Dragons have been on earth for millennia and already had a highly-advanced civilization when humans came into the picture.

Dragons taught early humans how to hunt and survive. Dragons gave early humans the secret of fire and showed them how to live in caves, and to make tools. They also helped them to develop their spiritual and shamanic practices, develop art, and to live with the earth in harmony. From there, dragons have taught us almost everything we know about most, if not all, of the traditional disciplines taught today. From Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Astrology, and above all, for wizarding folk, High Magic. Dragons are the most adept wizards, only one human wizard has ever rose to be included in their ranks, the High Wizard, Merlin of Britanniae.

Dragons and humans lived in peace and harmony with one another for thousands of years. According to dragons, this was the golden age on earth, before “civilization” took over.

The wonderful relationship between man and dragon was quickly brought an end with the development of agriculture in Mesopotamia. Dragons had long taught man to be independent and self-sufficient, and this did not go well with the new ruling classes and development of the city-state. The ruling classes needed slaves and soldiers, not free, independent thinking citizens.

So began a smear campaign against dragons. Humans in the new city-states were taught from birth to fear and hate all dragons, they lost their connection with ancient dragon knowledge, and they lost their spiritual connection to the earth.

Of course, not every human was easily brainwashed, and that is how the wizarding community grew and became separate from the rest of humanity. The early shamans and medicine men and women came to be known as wizards and witches and fought to keep the dragon traditions alive, albeit underground, and made sure the knowledge and the magic was passed down, eventually leading to schools such as this. From that time the bond between wizarding community and dragons became even stronger.

As the smear campaign continued throughout the centuries, dragon slaying became very common amongst the non-wizarding population. Dragons were often killed for bounty, sport, or just the sheer fun of it, something we wizarding folk were always sickened by and could never quite understand. Most were left to rot were they lay. Sometimes they were harvested for desirable parts to be sold on the black market, this is still a problem to this day, as you will see in the section on Dragons Today, Black Market.

There came a time when the non-wizarding population began to rise steeply and there were not many places left for dragons to live their lives peaceably, unmolested by man. The 1540 Council of Chartres in France was convened to come up with ideas and solutions for the non-wizarding/dragon problem. A small delegation of dragons representing what was left of their population after almost two millennia of ongoing genocide presided over the council. It was unanimously decided that dragons could no longer exist in this world without drawing unwanted attention from those who would do them harm.

The highest ranking wizards and witches of the time, all members of The Wizarding High Council, were in attendance.

These included Merlin, Agripa, Circe, Abramelin the Mage, Baba Yaga, Morgen LeFay, Apollonius of Tyana, Hermes Trismegistus, Ceridwen, Comte de Saint Germain, Hecate, Nicholas Flamel, Aradia, Paracelsus, Taliesin Ben Beirdd, Simon Magus, Hildegard von Bingen, and The Wyrd Sisters (Shakespeare did not make them up) with the guidance and cooperation of the dragon delegation wove an incantation for three weeks straight that would create a wrinkle in time and space and thusly, a new world for the dragons to live. An enchanted ingress, or a dimensional doorway, if you will, was opened to this parallel world that existed right alongside ours for them to live. This was a very ancient and high magic that was kept secret until the deaths of the Council members for the safety of the dragons and no longer exists today.

Since that time, only a certain initiated few are able to access the door and traverse the worlds. To become one of the initiated is quite a rigorous and lengthy process, (this class is just the beginning) sometimes taking many decades. The initiated are able to bring approved witches and wizards with them to work with and study the remaining dragons, but only with The Wizarding High Council and Dragon High Council approval.

The dragons also can come back into this world at will, and sometimes do, but rarely so, mostly on occasions to further wizard/dragon relations, such as this class.

I’d also like to happily add; the dragon population has rebounded steadily since relocating to the parallel world.
